QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second-consecutive season, Rachel Daly has been named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District, it was announced this afternoon. Daly will now be on the final ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
The 2013 NSCAA All-American and 2014 NSCAA Scholar All-American has been having a banner year as a senior, cementing herself as one of the NCAA's most prolific goal scorers. Her 18 goals on the season rank second nationally, but with all of her goals coming against Division I opponents, Daly leads the nation in that category. Of those 18 goals, eight have been game-winners, the second-best total of any player in the United States. She also recorded five multi-goal games this season, including her third career hat trick against Creighton on Oct. 11.
For her career, the Harrogate, England, native is already the program's leader in goals with 49 and is just one tally away from becoming only the second player in the history of St. John's soccer, men's or women's, to hit the half-century mark. Huey Ferguson, a two-time All-American and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year scored 50 for the men's side from 1991-94; Daly is trying to reach the same milestone in just three seasons.
Daly and the Red Storm will look to clinch the program's first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season Championship on Friday night, traveling to Providence, R.I., for a 7 p.m. match with the Friars. The contest will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
