QUEENS, N.Y. - In the final set of weekly conference awards this season, a trio of St. John's players has found spots on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Rachel Daly, Georgia Kearney-Perry and Diana Poulin were all honored after their team clinched its first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a 1-0 win over Providence on Friday night.
Daly, a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, makes her sixth appearance on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season. The senior forward tallied the lone goal in the Red Storm's 1-0 win over the Friars, heading one past Kristyn Shea in the 89th minute to help her team clinch the regular season title. The goal marked her 19th of the year, the most of any player in the nation against Division I competition, and the 50th of her career. The Harrogate, England, native became only the second player in the history of St. John's soccer, men's or women's, to reach the half-century mark. Huey Ferguson, a two-time All-American and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the year, scored 50 from 1991-94; Daly has reached the same milestone in just three seasons.
During the 11-week regular season, Daly was honored by the conference nine times.
Kearney-Perry and Poulin take home Honor Roll accolades after leading the Red Storm to its record-setting 12th shutout of the season on Friday. Guided by Kearney-Perry, the back four allowed just four shots on target from a potent Providence offense, none of which found the back of the net. Poulin recorded three saves in the clean sheet for her eighth victory of the season. With 31 victories for her career, the junior is just one win away from tying Kristin Russell (2008-11) for first place on the St. John's all-time list in that category.
Poulin was a two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week this season. A one-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week this season, this is Kearney-Perry's fourth appearance on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this year.
The Red Storm will kick off action in the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. ET in Omaha, facing the winner of tomorrow's match between Marquette and Butler.
