Â
Freshman Lauren Zick finished the afternoon 5-for-6 with a pair of RBI while sophomore Brittany Garcia went 4-for-6 with four doubles and three RBI. Senior Erin Burner also added a pair of doubles, as well as two walks and two RBI, in a 3-for-5 afternoon.
Â
The pitching duo of Tori Free and Francesca Carrullo were dominant in the circle, posting a 0.58 ERA with six strikeouts in 12 innings while holding the Hoyas to a .186 batting average.
Â
The Red Storm wasted no time in the early goings of game one, posting up a six-run opening frame to take the early 6-0 lead.
Â
With one on and one out, freshman Krystal Puga blasted her sixth home run of the season deep over the centerfield fence to plate the first two runs of the afternoon. After a walk to Burner, Garcia sent a RBI double into the gap and Savannah Warren was able to rip her first career triple into center, putting across three more runs for the Red Storm before a successful suicide squeeze capped off the six-run inning.
Â
Working off of the momentum of a inning-ending double play, the Red Storm was able to put across four more runs on five hits in the bottom of the second.
Â
Following a 1-2-3 inning in the top half of the third, St. John's was able to round out its 12-run game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame thanks to a pair of doubles by Garcia and Burner.
Â
The Hoyas were finally able to get on the board with a run in each the fourth and the fifth, but Free (5-4) was able to hold on and secure the 12-2 five-inning victory for the Red Storm. Megan Hyson took the loss for the Hoyas after allowing six runs on three hits in only a third of an inning of work in the start.
Â
The offense didn't settle down in game two either as the Red Storm was able to put up six runs on seven more hits, defeating the Hoyas, 6-0, to wrap up the afternoon sweep.
Â
Despite going down in order in the first two innings, the St. John's bats came alive in the bottom of the third as the Red Storm took advantage of a wild pitch and a Georgetown error to plate a pair of runs on two hits to take an early 2-0 lead.
Â
Following yet another double by Garcia, the Red Storm was able to put across another run with a sac fly by Warren to extend to a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth.
Â
Still leading 3-0 into the bottom of the sixth, St. John's was able to double its lead with a three-run inning to go on and secure the shutout victory.
Â
Carrullo (4-4) earned the win after throwing the second shutout of her career, holding the Hoyas to only four hits while striking out four. Hyson (9-9) took the loss after allowing five earned runs, giving up six hits while striking out a pair in five innings of work.
Â
The Red Storm will round out the three-game series with the Hoyas on Saturday at noon, live on ESPN3 via WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN app. Â
