St. John's Awarded Top Seed in BIG EAST Championship

QUEENS, N.Y.-- The St. John's men's tennis team will take on eighth-seeded Villanova on Friday, April 24 at 9 a.m. at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind., in the 2015 BIG EAST Tennis Championship Presented by New York Life, the conference announced Monday evening. Last year, the team was the top seed and won the BIG EAST Championship.

"We're super happy to be back in contention to repeat as BIG EAST Champions," head coach Eric Rebhuhn said. "The team had a tough schedule and that has set us up for a great weekend, and hopefully another bid to the NCAAs."

The Red Storm finished the regular season with a 12-8 overall record and a 2-0 record in BIG EAST play. Two members of the men's team were awarded BIG EAST Player of the Week throughout the season, junior Vaidik Munshaw and senior Erick Reyes. Munshaw led the team with 15 singles wins in 19 matches. Reyes led the Red Storm to victory over Penn when he clinched the match in a three-set thriller earlier this month.
