Head Coach Amy Kvilhaug
Opening Statement:
"This is an interesting time for us because it is the first time I have been here as a coach and there are two sides to the coin here. I'm looking at it as a wonderful experience. Arizona is a wonderful place to be and we have a lot of respect for the programs here. Anyone in the tournament right now is playing really good softball. We are also competitors and we're happy to be here, but we want to make sure that we are here to compete. We are going to take the same approach all tournament long as we did during the regular season and that's taking it one pitch at a time, staying consistent, making adjustments and do what we have to do to win games. While we're happy to be here and totally appreciate the history that has happened this year, we are here to compete and let's work to get out of the Tucson Regional."
Â
On the historic season:
"I get goosebumps thinking about it. So many things go into making a program run, from the administration to the trainers and all the way down to the players. I just happen to be along for the ride. It has been an amazing year and I couldn't be happier for this group of players because they do it the right way and they deserve to be here."
Â
On the environment at Hillenbrand Stadium:
"There were a lot of fans and a lot of organ music. It is a great environment and it's neat to be able to play in this sort of environment. It'll probably sell out, and having that championship environment was really fun to play in."
Â
Â
Senior Catcher Erin Burner
On this historic season:
"It is my last year here so seeing this team build for the last four year is an awesome feeling. It's great to finish my senior year this way."
Â
On playing at Arizona:
"It's an awesome experience for us, but we are here to compete. We respect every team they play. It's cool to see their facilities and all the history they have, but it's the same game in a different stadium."
Â
Â
Junior Pitcher Tori Free
On what clicked this season:
"I think our team was more like a family this year and it was like that on and off the field. We play as a team and we are a family."
Â
On Arizona's offense:
"I really need to keep the ball down. It doesn't affect me that it's Arizona, and they are a great team, but they are just another batter for me. I need to find out what works with each batter and go with it."
