QUEENS, N.Y. (July 28, 2015) - Following a historic season that included both the first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships as well as a first-ever NCAA Tournament trip, the St. John's Softball team earned the 2014-15 All-Sports Trophy from the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA).
"We were very excited to learn our program had been honored with the ADA DI-AAA award," head coach Amy Kvilhaug said. "It was a reminder of our great success last season and a testament to all our hard work in the classroom and on the field."
The All-Sports trophy is an award of overall excellence and is given to the top-ranked Division I-AAA individual programs in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
St. John's wrapped up an outstanding season by setting single-season program records for BIG EAST wins (16), longest win streak (15), batting average (.317), runs (243), RBI (224) and walks (152).
"We owe and would like to thank all the SJU softball teams who came before us and laid the groundwork for us to have such a tremendous experience," Kvilhaug added. "The bar has been set as far as standards and expectations for the program and we look to the future student-athletes and teams to continue carrying the torch."
Kvilhaug has a lot to build upon heading into next season as the team returns BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, Tori Free, and all but one starter from a team that led the conference in hitting.
