QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2015) - St. John's softball head coach Amy Kvilhaug added another power arm to the roster for the 2015-16 season this week when she signed Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year Madison Morris.
"We are really excited to welcome Madison Morris to our St. John's softball family," Kvilhaug said. "I have watched Madison pitch now for close to three years and think she absolutely has the stuff it takes to be a high-level Division I pitcher."
Morris, a right-handed pitcher from Hampton, Virginia, went 17-5 with a 1.03 ERA as a senior for Kecoughtan High School. She spearheaded the Warriors to the Class 6A South Regional Tournament as a two-way player contributing both in the circle and at the plate.
The two-time Monitor-Merrimac Conference Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-Conference Pitcher posted 270 strikeouts in 149.2 innings of work, allowing only 55 hits and 20 walks. Morris also batted .415 with three home runs, 23 RBI and a .707 slugging percentage.
"We project Madison to be a very big contributor to the future success of the program," Kvilhaug added. "She is eager and ready to step in and make an impact right away."
