QUEENS, N.Y. -- Behind a pair of top-30 finishes at the Towson Invitational, the St. John's women's golf team completed the first tournament of the 2015-16 season, coming in 14th at the Towson Invitational.
The Red Storm finished ahead of Navy, Hampton University, Fairfield University, LIU Brooklyn and Delaware State in the overall standings with a team score of 665 (+89)
Highlighted by an opening round of 77 (+5), Anna Kim was able to secure her 10th consecutive top-20 finish dating back to last season. She tied for 17th with a two-round score of 158 (+14).
Saskia Sterud was consistent over the two-day span, carding an 80 (+8) followed by an 81 (+9) to finish tied for 29th.
Freshmen Lydia Kim and Kirsty Beckwith concluded the first tournament of their college careers on Monday. Kim registered a total score of 171 (+27), which was boosted by a solid 82 (+10) in her debut. Beckwith improved one stroke the second time around the course to finish at 175 (+31).
Host Towson captured the team title by two strokes over Farleigh Dickinson with a score of 618 (+42). Anneke Strobach of Farleigh Dickinson shot a 149 (+5) to take home the individual championship.
The Red Storm returns to action next weekend when the team travels to Piscataway, N.J. to compete at the Rutgers Women's Invitational (Oct. 17-18).
