QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a pair of standout performances on Sunday that saw the duo combine for three goals and a pair of assists, Rachel Daly and Lucy Whipp have been honored by the BIG EAST as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Daly earns her second BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor this season following a five-point effort against Fairleigh Dickinson that featured two goals and an assist. The contest marked the 12th multi-goal performance of her career and signaled the third time during her tenure in Queens that the Harrogate, England, native has recorded multiple goals in consecutive games.
Daly's effort also packed historical significance, as the senior forward passed Cristin Burtis for second place on the program's career goals and points lists. With 38 tallies and 10 helpers for 86 points in her third season with the Red Storm, Daly is just two goals and five points shy of tying Adriana Viola for first place in each of those categories.
Whipp garners her first career weekly honor from the BIG EAST after registering her first points for the Red Storm against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Ormskirk, England, native started off the scoring in the sixth minute on Sunday night, beating a pack of FDU defenders and a charging goalkeeper before sending it home into an empty net. Later in the contest, Whipp began a sequence that resulted in the Red Storm's third goal of the contest, possessing the ball deep in the Knights' zone before passing it up to Emily Cubbage, who found Daly on the far side for the tally.
The Red Storm, which has tied a program mark for the best start to a season through nine games with a record of 8-1-0, kicks off BIG EAST play on Sunday night, playing host to Seton Hall at Belson Stadium. First kick is set for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
