Senior Karin Palgutova Earns Fourth BIG EAST Weekly Award

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Karin Palgutova was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In the opening week of conference play, the Red Storm (11-6) went 1-1 as Palgutova registered 4.50 kills per set.
St. John's defeated Butler, 3-2, on the road Friday before traveling to Ohio to face Xavier Saturday, in which they fell in a five-set match. Palgutova collected her seventh double-double of the season with 26 kills and 13 digs against the Bulldogs. She then finished with 19 kills and nine digs against the Musketeers.
The native of Bratislava, Slovakia, also recorded 2.20 digs per set during the week. Palgutova led the team in kills in both matches and currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in both kills (4.05) and points per set (4.48).
This marks the second time this season and 10th time in her career that Palgutova has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Last week, Palgutova was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career. She was also named to the weekly honor roll on Sept. 7, while again picking up Player of the Week honors on Sept. 14.

St. John's will play its BIG EAST home opener on Friday, Oct. 2, when it welcomes defending BIG EAST champion Creighton (8-7, 2-0 BIG EAST) for the Red Storm's eighth annual Dig for a Cure match in Carnesecca Arena at 7 p.m. The Red Storm will then host Georgetown (6-9, 0-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday for a match that is slated for 5 p.m. start. Both matches will air live on ESPN3.
Last season, the Red Storm lost both matches to Creighton (Oct. 17 and Nov. 15), while taking both from Georgetown (Oct. 19 and Nov. 14). The Bluejays lead the all-time series 3-1, while the Red Storm holds a14-9 advantage over the Hoyas.
