The Red Storm's stellar defensive play to being the season has grouped them with some of the nation's biggest names. Heading into the weekend, only four teams in the NCAA had compiled a record of 4-0 and a goals against average of 0.00: no. 4 North Carolina, no. 11 Auburn and no. 22 Rutgers.
With wins in each of its first four games, the Red Storm is off to the third-best start in program history. This year marks the fifth time that one of Head Coach Ian Stone's squads has begun a campaign with at least four victories; the team started 4-0 in 2000, won its first five in 2007 and won a school-record six-straight decisions to start both the 2004 and 2013 campaigns.
Reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year Diana Poulin has been off to a stellar start in 2015, registering a clean sheet in each of her three appearances this season. The NCAA leader in goals against average, Poulin is also on the verge of making St. John's history. The Hauppauge, N.Y., native is just one shutout shy of tying for second place on the school's career list in that category with 18. Should she reach the mark, Poulin will still have a long way to go before reaching the Red Storm's career leader, as Kristin Russell recorded 32 shutouts from 2008-11.
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown will be making its season debut against the Red Storm on Friday night.
Last season, the Bears finished with a record of 6-8-3, including a 1-4-2 mark in Ivy League play.
Brown does not return its top scorer from 2014 (Chloe Cross- six goals), but the Bears do bring back their next four leading goal getters, all of whom netted at least two tallies last year.
ST. JOHN'S VS. BROWN -- THE SERIES
Brown and St. John's have met in each of the past three seasons, with the Bears holding an all-time series advantage of 2-1-0
The home team has never won when the Red Storm and Bears meet on the pitch.
Last season, Brown defeated the Red Storm, 2-1, on Sept. 5 at Belson Stadium.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College is off to a strong start in 2015, compiling a record of 4-1-0 heading into this weekend's action following a 2-1 win over Harvard on Tuesday night. The Eagles' only loss of the season has come at the hands of no. 2 Stanford, a 4-0 defeat.
The Eagles' leading scorer this season has been redshirt junior forward McKenzie Meehan, a Gloucester, R.I., native that has scored six times in five contests.
Boston College has been offensively prolific this season, averaging over two and a half goals per game, including a 6-0 blanking of Pacific.
ST. JOHN'S VS. BOSTON COLLEGE -- THE SERIES
Former BIG EAST foes, the Red Storm and Eagles have a series history dating back to 1989.
Despite BC holding a 12-4-1 advantage all-time, the Red Storm and Eagles have split the last four contests played between the two schools, the last one of which came in 2004 prior to BC leaving the conference.
The Red Storm will be looking for its first ever victory in Chestnut Hill, where the Eagles are 9-0 all-time in meetings between the two teams.
