Roberto Livi Set for Oracle/ITA Masters Tournament

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's men's tennis standout senior Roberto Livi will head out to Malibu, Calif., this week to participate in the Oracle/ITA Masters Tournament on Oct. 13-16. Livi received his invitation to the 32-player tournament from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this past August.
Held at the Malibu Racquet Club, this tournament is one of four national championship events on the college tennis calendar and features 28 student-athletes who earned bids from their respective conferences, plus four student-athletes who received wild cards or at-large selections. Livi received his selection from the BIG EAST conference.
"This is a great opportunity for [Roberto Livi] to play among the best in the nation. I am happy he gets this chance because he has earned it, being the two-time BIG EAST Player of the Year," said Assistant Coach Cory Hubbard.
Through two tournaments on the St. John's fall schedule, Livi is 5-1 in singles play including a finals appearance this past weekend at the Farnsworth Invitational. The reigning two-time BIG EAST Player of the Year, Livi went 17-4 in singles play, mostly at the No. 3 spot, and held a 13-7 record in doubles play in 2016. Livi was just one of three student-athletes who were voted by unanimous decision to the 2015-16 All-BIG EAST Team, marking his third selection to the team in as many years.
Seeded 23rd in the singles tournament, Livi is scheduled to square off against No. 10 seed Or Ram-Harel of Tulsa in the first round.
"His first round match is against a top-25 ranked player so it's a big challenge but he has the capability to win if he plays his game. I expect him to play with a lot of energy and determination because this is his chance to put his name in the rankings and also show that St. John's can compete with the nation's elite teams," added Hubbard.
