HARRISON, N.Y. - St. John's men's tennis (5-1) swept both Quinnipiac (0-1) and Connecticut (0-4) on Sunday. The two-time defending BIG EAST Champion Red Storm defeated the Bobcats, 4-0, and then knocked off the Huskies, 5-0.
"Today was a good way to continue our winning ways after a great start in Florida," said Head Coach Eric Rebhuhn.
In the first match of the day against the Bobcats, the No. 49 ranked doubles team of Lucas Hejhal and Vaidik Munshaw cruised past Jonas Kuwert and Willem van Biezen 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. The Red Storm seniors remain undefeated on the season. At the No. 3 position Dusan Vukicevic and MJ Every earned the Jonnies the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Kei Ezaka and Kyle Alper.
The newcomer Vukicevic continued his impressive day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alper at the No. 6 singles position. At No. 4 singles, the veteran Munshaw defeated Julian Rozenstein 6-1, 6-4. Andrei Crapcenco clinched match victory for the Red Storm, beating van Biezen 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. At the No. 3 singles position, Roberto Livi was winning 6-2, 5-2 over Kuwert before the match went unfinished.
St. John's sustained its winning ways against UConn with Hejhal and Alex Roszkowski defeating Hank Hill and Jonathan Edwards 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. Livi and Daniel Skripnik secured the doubles point at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 win over Jacob Spreyer and Christopher Toner. Crapcenco and Munshaw were winning 5-4 at the No. 2 spot before the match went unfinished.
The freshman Crapcenco started singles play on the right note with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory over Parker Goldstein at the No. 3 position. At the No. 4 singles position, Vukicevic earned his third match win of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Justin Warren. The senior leader Hejhal then clinched victory for the Red Storm with a straight-sets victory over Toner at the No. 2 spot. Spriknik, a freshman from Israel, also had a straight-sets victory at the No. 1 position.
The Red Storm won every completed match on the day and is currently on a four-match winning streak.
