QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. John's softball swept the BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Monday, as freshman Madison Morris was named Pitcher of the Week, junior catcher Kaitlyn Wilkens earned Player of the Week and junior pitcher Grace Kramer landed on the Honor Roll after helping the Red Storm record a perfect 5-0 record last week.
Morris earned her second Pitcher of the Week award this season after striking out 23 and going 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 24.0 innings. The Hampton, Va., native opened the week with a complete game, three-hit, seven strikeout performance against Stony Brook. Morris then followed that up with a six strikeout, six-inning shutout against Fairleigh Dickinson. In the St. John's Invitational finale, the freshman registered a career-high eight strikeouts during a two-hit complete game effort versus Howard.
Wilkens was impressive offensively and defensively for St. John's this past week as she hit .545 with four RBI and three runs scored. She also reached base safely in all five games. The junior from Moorpark, Calif., had two multi-hit performances, including a 2-for-3, two RBI showing against Stony Brook where she hit her first-career home run. Defensively, Wilkens threw out 4-of-8 base runners from behind the plate.
Kramer was overpowering in the circle in both of her appearances this week for the Johnnies, as she struck out 18 and went 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 11.0 innings. Against Manhattan, Kramer registered a career-high 14 strikeouts in a complete game win where she allowed one run on five hits. The San Diego, Calif., native helped secure a win in relief against Samford, striking out four in 4.0 innings to give St. John's its fourth-straight win.
The Red Storm (13-12) looks to make it six-straight on Wednesday when the team clashes against local foe Fordham at Red Storm Field. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3 with Ralph Bednarczyk and Kayla Lombardo providing coverage.
