Red Storm Women's Tennis Downs Albany, 4-2

ALBANY, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Albany on the road on Saturday afternoon, 4-2. It's the second-straight season the Johnnies have knocked off Albany and the Great Danes suffered its first home loss of the season.
St. John's (9-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) started the day off slow, losing the first match at No. 1 doubles. However, this did not stop the Red Storm as they took the two remaining doubles matches to take the first team point of the afternoon.
At No. 2 doubles, Stephanie Elgegren and Delia Arranz earned a, 6-3, victory over Alba Sala and Isidora Pejovic. It is the duo's sixth victory in their last seven matches when playing together. Anna Morozova and Jaide Collins clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies with a, 6-4, triumph at the No. 3 spot. This victory improved the tandem's record to 9-3.
The top player for the Red Storm, Natallia Vavulina, got it going in singles play recording a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position. It was her seventh-straight win when playing singles and moves her record to an astounding 12-1 in singles play. Morozova, a junior from Russia notched a straight-sets victory at the No. 2 singles spot for her second triumph of the afternoon.
At the No. 5 singles position, Olaya Inclan delivered the match-clinching victory with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Ana Glumac. This was the freshman's eighth victory in her last last nine matches in singles play.
The Red Storm will return home for its next match to host BIG EAST foe Marquette on April 8 at noon. This will be St. John's first home match on campus this season.
