St. John's Battles Local Foe LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The St. John's softball team (25-19, 9-7 BIG EAST) puts its four-game winning streak on the line Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when the Red Storm makes the short trip to LIU Brooklyn (25-24) for its final road contest of the season.
Leading Off
• St. John's is back on the road for its final nonconference game of the season as the Red Storm makes the short trip to LIU Brooklyn on Wedneday at 3:30 p.m.
• The Red Storm have won four-straight games and five of its last six games, all against conference opponents.
• Last week, St. John's swept Creighton on Saturday with a pair of 8-6, 4-1 victories before Sunday's contest was rained out.
• LIU Brooklyn is riding a 12-game winning streak heading into Wednesday's showdown. The Blackbirds swept Sacred Heart on Saturday by a combined score of 14-2.
• St. John's and LIU Brooklyn opened the season against each other and the Blackbirds came out on top, 3-2.
Series History
• St. John's owns a 18-24 overall record against LIU Brooklyn and is 6-9 on the road against the Blackbirds.
• The Red Storm had a three game winning streak against the Blackbirds snapped earlier this season when the Johnnies fell, 3-2.
• This series goes back to 1986 where the Blackbirds defeated the Red Storm, 2-0, in the first game ever between these two programs.

• Freshman Madison Morris has yet to lose a game this season, boasting a 4-0 record with a team-low 3.17 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 53.0 innings.
SCOUTING REPORT: LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds (25-24, 12-2 NEC)
• LIU Brooklyn is riding a 12-game winning streak heading into its showdown with St. John's and is 8-2 at home.
• Last Saturday, LIU Brooklyn took both games of a doubleheader at home against Sacred Heart. Senior infielder Celinna Cosio had three hits with two home runs and six RBI in the doubleheader.
• As a team, the Blackbirds are hitting at a .283 clip with 24 home runs and 32 stolen bases.
• Sophomore catcher Victoria Zamora leads the squad in batting with a .363 avg and in runs scored with 31.
• Senior infielder Celinna Cosio leads the team in home runs (6) and in RBI (32). She is also second on the team with a .356 batting avg.
• The Blackbirds pitching holds a 3.83 ERA with 122 strikeouts this season.
• Sophomore RHP Erynn Sobieski leads the pitching staff in ERA (3.32), wins (16), shutouts (2), complete games (15), strikeouts (122) and innings pitched (185.1).
• Freshman LHP Tallie Woodson is 7-7 with a 4.45 ERA this season.
In its Last Series (Against Creighton)
• Last weekend, St. John's swept Creighton on Satuday before Sunday's contest was rained out. It was the third-straight BIG EAST series win for St. John's and fourth of the season.
• McKenzie Murray was dominant against Creighton, striking out a career-high 10 batters en route to a complete game victory in game two.
• Hannah Anderson led the offense with a .714 batting average. She set a new career-high in hits after going 4-for-4 with a run and RBI in the opener.
• Savannah Warren helped St. John's take the series with a three-run home run in St. John's 4-1 win over Creighton in game two.
• Lauren Zick batted .571, stole a base and scored twice this past weekend.
• Brittany Garcia, Krystal Puga and Yvonne Rericha each drove in two runs apiece.
