QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. John's swept the final BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Monday as Brittany Garcia was named Player of the Week, Grace Kramer received Pitcher of the Week honors and Krystal Puga landed on the Honor Roll after helping the Red Storm close out the regular season with three wins over Seton Hall.
Garcia batted .667 with three runs, three walks and four RBI over three games to earn her first-career Player of the Week honor. The junior centerfielder set the tone early when she hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the series opener to put the Red Storm ahead. In addition to slugging an outstanding 1.167, Garcia scored and recorded a hit in all three games.
Kramer was dominant in both her appearances against the Pirates, finishing the weekend 2-0 with a 0.70 ERA and 12 strikeouts over the course of 10.0 innings. The junior from San Diego, Calif., came out of the gate strong in the opener, striking out eight during a one-run, four-hit, complete-game performance. In the regular season finale, Kramer came out of the bullpen and kept St. John's in the game with 3.0 innings of scoreless ball before St. John's walked-off in the seventh.
Puga was instrumental in securing the series sweep over Seton Hall as she led the team with five RBI and scored the game-winning run on Sunday. For the series, the sophomore first baseman batted .400 with two runs, a triple and her team leading eighth home run of the season.
The Red Storm (28-19, 12-7 BIG EAST) will defend its conference title beginning on Friday when St. John's takes on Villanova (32-17, 14-6 BIG EAST) in the BIG EAST Semifinals at The Ballpark at Rosemont. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. (ET) and will be aired on FS2.
