QUEENS, N.Y. -- After a record-breaking regular season that saw his team win its third-straight BIG EAST Tournament, St. John's men's tennis Head Coach Eric Rebhuhn was awarded Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday afternoon.
With 21 wins heading into the NCAA Tournament, 2016 has been the most successful season in program history, eclipsing the old record of 17 victories. The Red Storm also tied the record for most home victories in a season with 10. It was the fifth time in the last six years the men's tennis program has won at least 15 matches.
The Red Storm was ranked as high as No. 52 in the nation and earned one of its biggest wins in program-history on Feb. 26, when the Johnnies knocked off No. 32 Harvard, 4-3.
The head coach at St. John's since 2001, Rebhuhn has racked up 189 wins and has led the team to three-straight BIG EAST Championship titles and three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
St. John's will head to Gainesville, Fla., to take on South Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 14 at 9 a.m. at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
