QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second time this summer, rising sophomore forward Christina Bellero has been named the United Women's Soccer East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The Melville, N.Y., native played a crucial role in the Long Island Rough Riders' win over the rival New York Magic on Sunday, scoring a pair of goals to lead her squad to a 3-1 victory. The Half Hollow Hills East product opened the scoring with an open-net tap-in in the seventh minute and increased her team's lead to a pair with her second tally of the game in the 59th minute.
Bellero was also named the East Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on May 16 after recording a brace for the Rough Riders against New Jersey Copa F.C. On the summer, Bellero ranks third in UWS with six goals.
As a freshman for the Red Storm in 2015, Bellero ranked second on the team in scoring, netting four goals and picking up an assist for nine points on the season. After scoring two goals in as many games against Brown and Boston College in September, Bellero was named both the BIG EAST Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the only first-year player in the league to garner both honors in 2015.
