QUEENS, N.Y. - With just two days to go before the start of her senior season in Queens, Diana Poulin has been recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as one of the nation's most elite players, checking in at no. 74 in the Preseason Top 100 rankings.
Poulin, the two-time defending BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, is on the precipice of history entering her final season in Queens, needing just one more victory to take over sole possession of first place on the St. John's all-time wins list. With 32 victories over her storied Red Storm career, Poulin is currently tied with Kristin Russell (2008-11) for the top spot on that ledger. The Hauppauge, N.Y., native's 20 career shutouts are also good enough for second in the St. John's record books.
Last season, Poulin led the Red Storm to a program-record 12 shutouts and a 0.64 goals against average, good enough for 20th in the nation in the latter category. In addition, The Red Storm's shutout percentage of .600 ranked 10th in all of NCAA Division I Women's Soccer in 2015.
A National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-American as a junior, Poulin was invited to U-23 United States Women's National Team training camp in May.
Last season, Rachel Daly and Georgia Kearney-Perry were mainstays on the Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 rankings, finishing seventh and 23rd, respectively in the final postseason edition.
Poulin and the Red Storm will kick off the 2016 regular season on Friday night, playing host to the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University at 5 p.m. on Belson Stadium.
