QUEENS, N.Y. - Former St. John's lacrosse attackman Kieran McArdle was named to the Team USA men's lacrosse roster by US Lacrosse and U.S. men's senior team head coach John Danowski on Friday afternoon. McArdle joins a roster of 44 players that will play in an exhibition game on Sept. 11, as part of the US Lacrosse Grand Opening celebration weekend. This marks McArdle's third appearance on the U.S. men's senior team, as he has previously played in a US Lacrosse Blue-White exhibition (2015) and the Seatown Classic (2014).
"I'm really excited for Kieran. I watched him live this summer in the Launch vs. Lizards game at Hofstra. My sons ICON team played before the game, so we stayed with his team to watch. It's the first time I've watched him play live since he played for us," said Head Coach Jason Miller. "He was 7-3 that night. He just gets better and better. He is without question one of the best, if not the best LH'er in the country. It's really fun to watch him play, and I'm proud that he has this opportunity."
McArdle, a 2014 St. John's graduate, has played each of the last three seasons with Major League Lacrosse's Florida Launch, the team that selected him fifth overall in the 2014 draft. He has enjoyed a bevy of success in the MLL, as he was named the 2014 MLL Rookie of the Year and has been honored as an MLL All-Star team member each of the last two years. This past season, McArdle led the Launch in both points (56) and goals (37).
The Ronkonkoma, N.Y., native is one of eight attackmen named to the U.S. roster, including three members of the 2014 U.S. Men's Senior Team: Ned Crotty, Marcus Holman and Rob Pannell. The 2014 U.S. team captured the silver medal at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in Denver.
The men's team will play an intra-squad scrimmage as part of a tripleheader at the new US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., on Sept. 11. The tripleheader opens with the U.S. women's team at 10 a.m., the U.S. men's team will play at 1 p.m. and the day closes with a special exhibition between lacrosse teams from the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) at 4 p.m.
Tickets for the tripleheader are on sale for $8 on the US Lacrosse website. The men's and women's national teams will also hold clinics for youth and high school players on Saturday, Sept. 10.
This game will help celebrate the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters' new facilities, which is the result of a $15 million capital campaign funded entirely by private donors. A new National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum, featuring the Richie Moran Hall of Fame Gallery, will open during the weekend festivities.
The most decorated player in program history, McArdle was named a three-time All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and garnered two BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year awards. McArdle remains the Red Storm's all-time leader in career points, goals and assists - becoming the first player in St. John's history to amass 200 points, 100 assists and 100 goals in a career.
