QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a road trip to California, that saw the Red Storm collect two victories, St. John's returns to the court Wednesday night for a road matchup against defending MAAC Champions Fairfield.
The first serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall and will be broadcasted on fairfieldstags.com. A subscription is required to watch the match, but fans can also keep up with the action by following @StJohnsVB.
LAST TIME OUT: ST. JOHN'S TALLIES TWO WINS AT SAN FRANCISCO CHALLENGE
The Red Storm (8-1) opened the San Francisco Challenge with a convincing sweep over host San Francisco, recording a season-high .429 attacking percentage.
In the second match of the tournament, the Johnnies dropped their first game of the season to RV/NR UC Santa Barbara, 3-1, despite Erica Di Maulo picking up her fourth double-double of the year.
Wrapping up the San Francisco Challenge against Ivy League foe Brown, St. John's blanked the Bears to earn its seventh-sweep of the season.
After stellar performances over the weekend, Di Maulo and Margherita Bianchin were both chosen to the All-Tournament Team.
BIG EAST AND NCAA RANKINGS (as of Sept. 13, 2016)
Di Maulo ranks inside the top 20 in the nation in assists per set (11.17), which is the second best of any freshman in the country.
With 1.62 blocks per set, Danisha Moss leads the BIG EAST conference and ranks 14th in the country.
The Red Storm is the sixth-best team in the country in blocks per set, averaging 3.28.
St John's leads all BIG EAST programs in hitting percentage and blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE STAGS (6-5)
Fairfield, the defending MAAC champions, got off to a slow start in 2016 coming up short in three of their first four matches.
The Stags have improved as of late winning five of their last seven matches, including a perfect 4-0 effort at the Crusader Classic two weeks ago.
Last weekend, Fairfield hosted its own invitational and went 1-2 with its lone triumph coming against James Madison.
Junior outside hitter Skyler Day leads the MAAC conference in kills per set averaging 3.81 and has recorded a team-high nine aces on the year.
The primary setter for the Stags is junior Sydney Buckley who averages 5.8 assists per set and has notched 61 digs this season.
As a team, Fairfield leads the MAAC in kills (13.22), assists (12.42) and digs per set (14.58).
The Red Storm owns a 6-2 all-time record against the Stags, but these programs have not faced each other since 2007 when St. John's swept Fairfield at Carnesecca Arena.
