QUEENS, N.Y. -- After reaching its third-straight BIG EAST Championship last season, the St. John's softball team returns to Red Storm Field on Saturday to open the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule as announced by head coach Amy Kvilhaug.
The Red Storm kicks off the fall tomorrow against Iona at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Wagner immediately following game one.
St. John's will then host LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 25 for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
On Oct. 1, Central Connecticut St. and Saint Peter's come to town for back-to-back games. First pitch against CCSU is set for 1:30 p.m.
St. John's will wrap up the fall with a pair of games on Oct. 8. The Johnnies will battle N.Y. Tech at 11 a.m. followed by a 1:30 p.m. clash against local foe Manhattan.
Eight starters and 14 total players return from a squad that finished a few outs shy of back-to-back league titles.
The Red Storm also added five freshmen to the group as first baseman Kaitlin Mattera, infielder Natalie Giroux and utility players Laura Delgado, Marissa Rizzi and Gretchen Bowie will be looked upon to contribute next season.
