QUEENS, N.Y. -- For the fourth-straight year, the St. John's softball team made a trip to Atria Assisted Living in Jamaica, Queens as part of Saturday's St. John's University Service Day.
"I look forward to going to Atria every year," said senior Grace Kramer. "It's always a great feeling when we see the residents' faces light up because they remember us from the year before. I know they really enjoy the company and I always enjoy listening to their stories."
The team spent time baking brownies and cookies and talking with the group home members. Players also interacted with the folks of Atria by leading stretches and playing games such as volleyball and Wii bowling.
Senior Kaitlyn Wilkens particularly enjoyed the time she spent talking to a man named Bill.
"Bill cried every time he talked about his daughter because he was so proud of her," said Wilkens. "He reminded me of my dad and the relationship we have together."
St. John's returns to the diamond on Saturday as Central Connecticut State and Saint Peter's visit Queens for a 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. showdown, respectively.
