QUEENS, N.Y. - The National Women's Soccer League announced Tuesday the list of finalists for the league's end of the year awards, and former Red Storm standout Rachel Daly was one of three players up for Rookie of the Year.
Daly, who was selected sixth overall by the Houston Dash in the 2016 NWSL College Draft, burst onto the scene when she scored a goal and added an assist in her professional debut on Apr. 16 against the Chicago Red Stars, leading the Dash to its first-ever win over Chicago. For her efforts, Daly was named the NWSL Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 1. Daly finished her rookie campaign with four goals and four assists in 16 games. Her four goals were third on the team, while her four helpers tied for the team lead.
Daly graduated as the most prolific player in St. John's women's soccer history following the fall 2015 semester. During her three years in Queens, Daly tallied 50 goals and 111 points, both of which set program records. In addition, Daly was a two-time NSCAA All-American, a two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, a three-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection, a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist honoree and a semifinalist for the award in 2015. Daly twice finished in the top three nationally in scoring, leading the nation with 23 goals in 2013 before finishing third with 19 tallies as a senior in 2015. Daly also led the Red Storm to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and helped guide the program to its first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season Championship during her senior season
