MIAMI - St. John's men's tennis (1-2) fell to the University of Miami (1-0) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla., on Friday afternoon. This was the third-leg of a tough season-opening four game road trip against teams from the Sunshine State.
Roberto Livi and Alan Nunez Aguilera battled tough at the No. 1 doubles position against the No. 22 nationally ranked pair of Max Andrews and Piotr Lomacki. The Hurricanes doubles team led just 4-3 before the match went unfinished. St. John's fell at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, giving Miami an early 1-0 match lead.
Livi squared off again with Piotr Lomacki in singles play, providing another exciting battle at the No. 1 spot. Livi dropped his first set, 5-7, but led in the second set, 3-1, before the match went unfinished against the No. 86-ranked Lomacki.
The Johnnies fell at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, ultimately falling to the Hurricanes, 4-0.
Last season, Head Coach Eric Rebhuhn and his squad bested the Hurricanes in a tough, 4-3, battle at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
St. John's rounds out its season-opening road trip with a matchup against the University of North Florida at 2 p.m., also at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Johnnies open up at home on Feb. 5, with a doubleheader against Binghamton and Stony Brook.
