St. John's Completes Play at the Connecticut Cup

ELLINGTON, Conn. - The St. John's men's golf team concluded play at the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday, finishing ahead of three programs in a tie for 11th place.
Leading the Johnnies in the two-day event was junior Andrew Baek, who posted a 74 in each of the first two rounds, followed by a final round 75. The Arcadia, Calif. native's final round featured back-to-back birdies on the par four and five.
Sophomore Gerald Mackedon had his best performance on the final day, carding a team-low 71. Mackedon's low round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 13th hole to card an overall 224. Of the 90 participants, the Port Jefferson native was one of three competitors to drain an eagle during the two-day tournament.
Junior Matthew Sweeney registered a 76 followed by an 81, while James Smoot and Ross Moore rounded out the team portion of day two for the Johnnies, carding a combined 154 and 155 over the Jonathan Spicci carded an overall 158 on the day while competing as an individual.
UConn maintained the top spot of the tournament, carding a combined one-under 864 to finish six-strokes ahead of second place Cornell. St. John's finished with a team score of 900 (+36).
As for the individuals, Cornell's Mike Graboyes carded a two-day total 213 (-3) to capture medalist honors, edging out Rhode Island's Dawson Jones by one stroke.
The Johnnies will have a week off before closing out their fall slate on Oct. 20th for the Lehigh Invitational.
