QUEENS, N.Y. - After scoring the game-winner in double overtime against Creighton, junior Christina Bellero found herself on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Bellero, who totaled five shots in a 1-1 weekend for the Red Storm, scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season Thursday night.
In the 105th minute of a scoreless game between St. John's and Creighton, freshman Maia Cabrera saw Bellero making a run in the middle of the pitch. The rookie from Rego Park placed a perfect one-hop pass to Bellero, who got in behind the defense and beat McKenzie Meola for the golden goal.
Bellero's five goals on the year rank fourth in the BIG EAST, while her shot total (31), shots per game (2.58), points (12) and goals per game (0.42) all rank within the top 10 in the conference.
After a pair of games at Belson Stadium, the Red Storm hits the road for a pair of games away from Queens. The Johnnies travel to Providence, R.I., to take on the Friars on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. before heading to Indianapolis, Ind., to visit Butler at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8.
