CHICAGO - The St. John's women's tennis team (7-1) took down DePaul (4-5) at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness in Chicago Ill., on Sunday. The Johnnies handed DePaul its first loss at home in four years.
The match pushes the Red Storm's winning streak to five matches.
In doubles play, the No. 1 pairing of Anna Morozova and Jessica Livianu beat Yuliya Shupenia and Ana Vladutu 6-3. The Johnnies clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 spot. Stephanie Elgegren and Jaide Collins took down Milica Tesic and Florence Abbott, 6-3.
DePaul's only two points of the day came on the two singles wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions. Livianu, the No. 49-ranked player, took down No. 96 Shupiena 7-6, 6-0. Morozova won a closely contested match against Patricia Lancranjan at the No. 2 spot 7-5, 5-7, 1-0.
Olaya Inclan and Irina Preotescu took their singles matches as well to cap off the Johnnies victory.
The Johnnies are now 2-0 in BIG EAST play. The last Blue Demons loss at home was on Feb. 24, 2013, against Syracuse.
