BIG EAST Release
QUEENS, N.Y. - After leading the Red Storm to its first 3-0 start since the 2010 season, Jesse Berardi and Michael LoPresti have been named to the season's first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Berardi played spectacularly for the Johnnies in their opening three games at TicketReturn.com Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C., logging hits in six of his 12 at-bats. The junior shortstop from Commack, N.Y., went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the season-opener, a 14-3 win over Western Carolina. The following day in a 13-1 victory against James Madison, Berardi reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The Commack High School product registered only one hit in the team's 7-3 win over Richmond on Sunday, but it came at an opportune time, as he logged a two-RBI single in a four-run top of the fifth that gave the Red Storm the lead for good.
LoPresti shined in the Red Storm's 13-1 victory over JMU on Saturday, tying a career-high with seven strikeouts to help notch his first win of the season. The Wayne, N.J., native allowed only one run on four hits over 5.0 innings of work against the Dukes.
Following this afternoon's contest against No. 9 Coastal Carolina, the Red Storm will next be in action on Friday heading down to Lexington, S.C., for a 2 p.m. matchup with Kansas State.
