STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. ââ'¬" In one of the most impressive individual performances in recent St. John's memory, Adriana Wright led the way for the Red Storm at the 2017 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships as she took home three individual titles and won a silver medal in the 4x400-meter relay. Overall, the Red Storm finished third in the team standings with 129 team points.
Wright scored the most points of any individual athlete at this year's conference championship meet, with 32, as she was named the High Point Performer for the women's side. The senior captured individual gold medals in the 60-meter hurdles, the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
In addition to her three individual victories, Wright ran the third-leg of the Red Storm's 4x400-meter relay team, which finished second-overall.
"We had an awesome BIG EAST Championships meet and we could not be more proud of how our whole team competed," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "We were able to score points across the entire event spectrum. Adriana Wright was spectacular winning the 60-meter hurdles, the 60-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and running the third leg running on our 4x400-meter relay that finished second. Maya Stephens also had another fantastic meet winning the 400-meter dash, taking second in the 200-meter dash, and running the anchor leg on our 4x400."
Overall, St. John's championed five of the 18 events held at the two-day meet at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility in Staten Island, N.Y.
The Red Storm sat in third-place at the end of day one of the competition thanks to Nyla Woods' victory in the weight throw and a pair of second-place finishes by Julia Schwan and Anointing Onuoha in the pentathlon and long jump, respectively.

Anointing Onuoha also had a great meet as she placed second in long jump and fourth for the triple jump, followed by Shequell Higgs' fifth in triple," added Hurt. "They were huge contributors to our third-place team finish. We competed event after event all the way down to the great run in the 4x400. We're very proud of the team's two-day effort and we look forward to great things from our team at the ECAC Championships next week up in Boston."
