Cassandra Lemus-Sodji Claims Penn Relay’s College Women’s Long Jump Title

The senior secured the victory on her final attempt
PHILADELPHIA – With a flair for the dramatics, St. John's track and field standout Cassandra Lemus-Sodji claimed the College Women's Long Jump at the historic Penn Relays.
The senior used a 6.07-meter jump on her final attempt to finish atop of the podium.
The Seattle, Wash., native finished a mere one centimeter ahead of the second-place competitor from UConn. Her 6.07m (19 feet, 11 inches) jump is the third best result of the season, behind her winning personal-best effort from the USF Alumni Invitational and her fifth-place finish at the South Florida Invitational.
Lemus-Sodji was in firm control of the competition through the first two rounds, before falling to second heading in the finals.
After the fourth round, she found herself off the podium and in fifth place. Following a 5.80m (19 feet, 0.25 inches) attempt in round four, the senior showcased her experience to record a 5.92m (19 feet, 5.25 inches) leap for her furthest mark of the competition.
Down to her final jump, Lemus-Sodji came from behind to secure her second win of the season in the discipline with her 6.07m jump.
Lemus-Sodji is set to double-back in the in the 4x200-meter relay later this evening. In addition the 4x400-meter relay advanced to the finals of the Championship of America, as it eyes the famed Penn Relay Wheel.
