Mackedon Ties for Seventh at the Rhode Island Invitational

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- Freshman Gerald Mackedon recorded his third top-10 finish after tying for seventh at the Rhode Island Invitational from the Quidnessett Golf Course on Tuesday.
Mackedon closed out his final round with a 1-over 73 to finish the tournament at 3-over 219. Behind three consistent rounds, the rookie ended four strokes shy of medalist Ryan Tomba (Bryant).
As a team, St. John's placed ahead of Iona, Lafayette, Niagara and Holy Cross with a three-round score of 319-292-317--928 (+64).
Freshman James Smoot finished inside the top-50 behind an 18-over 234.
Senior Sean Byrne recorded a 21-over 231, while sophomore Seung Yub Baek posted a 22-over 238.
Host Rhode Island took home the team title with a score of 12-over 876.
The Johnnies wrap up their regular season this weekend at the Navy Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will run from April 22-23 at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
