QUEENS, N.Y. - After leading the St. John's women's basketball team to a fourth-straight 20-win season and a 10th-consecutive postseason appearance, seniors Aaliyah Lewis and Jade Walker have been named to the All-Met First Team, the organization announced this morning.
Lewis was the leader on both ends of the floor for Head Coach Joe Tartamella's team throughout the 2016-17 campaign. The Staten Island native, who was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention, finished the year with 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game, all of which were career-highs. Known for her durability and stamina, Lewis led the BIG EAST in minutes played and minutes per game, logging 1,271 minutes on the court and averaging 37.4 per game. One of the nation's best distributors, Lewis' 210 assists ranked 14th in the country and paced the conference, while her 6.2 dimes per game ranked 17th in Division I and were tops in the league. Additionally, the 5-5 guard came away with 1.3 steals per contest, which led the team and helped earn her BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year praise.
Walker, an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, proved to be one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the BIG EAST this past season as the senior finished 11th in the conference and led the Red Storm with 13.5 points per game and ranked eighth in the league with a 47.0 field goal percentage. After finding success in a reserve role as a junior, the Maplewood, N.J., native stepped up her game during her final season, starting all 34 games and averaging 27.4 minutes per contest. During league play, the 6-1 forward averaged 15.7 points per outing, good enough for third in the league. Walker also became the 23rd player to score 1,000 points in a St. John's uniform and finished with 1,207 career points, which ranks 16th on the program's all-time scoring list.
The pair will be honored tomorrow evening at the 84th NIT/MBWA Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
