DAYTON, Ohio. ââ'¬" Former St. John's softball player Francesca Carrullo began her collegiate coaching career as she signed on to be an Assistant Softball Coach under Cara LaPlaca for the Dayton Flyers in Ohio.
Carrullo was a key cog in the Red Storm's most successful season in program history as she helped guide the Johnnies to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and a sweep of both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships. During that impressive run, Carrullo earned her first-career All-BIG EAST honor after a sensational senior campaign, leading her squad to an 8-1 record with a 1.63 ERA in conference play while she was in the circle. Carrullo also tossed her first-career no-hitter with a five-inning win against Creighton on April 26 and was tabbed as the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 6 and April 27.
For her career, the right-hander from Warrington, Pa. amassed 26 wins, five shutouts, 22 complete games and 174 strikeouts over 316.1 innings. Carrullo was also a four-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic team.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2015 following four seasons with the Red Storm, Carrullo spent the last two years as a graduate assistant with the St. John's Student Development for Athletes staff, while obtaining her Master's of Science in Sports Management.
