Jim Hurt Releases Updated Olympic Day Schedule
9/26/2017 12:00:00 AM | Women's Cross Country
QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's cross country head coach Jim Hurt announced Tuesday the updated schedule for the Olympic Day festivities on Sunday, Oct. 15. The day features a pair of former BIG EAST Championship teams and the honoring of Steve Bartold.
One change from this year's event is the cancelation of the SJU Fall Festival XC meet at Cunningham Park. The course is closed for renovation, and allows for Hurt's squad to remain focused on the Metropolitan Championships on Oct. 13.
Among the highlights of the event will be the honoring of former head coach Steve Bartold, who will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of his graduation from St. John's in 1957. Bartold coached many former Johnnies to success, but most famously 1964 Olympian Tom Farrell.
Also attending the celebration will be the 1980 and 1987 BIG EAST Championship teams. The 1980 team captured the first BIG EAST title for St. John's cross country in route to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships that year. Meanwhile, 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the 87 team's title season, and will be the first time both conference championship teams will be together.
