Red Storm returns to Belson next Saturday night
MILWAUKEE- The St. John's men's soccer team dropped its second-straight BIG EAST decision on Saturday night, falling to Marquette, 4-0, at Valley Fields.
Luka Prpa, Josh Coan, Connor Alba and Lukas Sunesson scored for the Golden Eagles (4-7-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST). Despite the lopsided score, Marquette barely outshot St. John's, recording 14 tries to the Red Storm's 12.
Lenny Wilson made six stops in net for the Red Storm (6-6-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST). Luis Barraza also made a half-dozen stops for the Golden Eagles, registering his fourth shutout of the season.
Tani Oluwaseyi led the team with three shots on the game, while Skage Simonsen, Matt Forster and Mauricio Rivas each added a pair.
The two squads played even for a majority of the first half before Josh Coan tallied the Golden Eagles' first goal in the 41st minute.
St. John's started to swing the game's momentum in the opening portion of the second half before a 65th-minute red card sent Tiago Teixeira to the bench and gave Marquette a penalty kick opportunity. Prpa converted for the Golden Eagles, bumping their lead to two.
Alba struck again for Marquette in the 73rd before Sunesson added the Golden Eagles' final marker in the 83rd.
The Red Storm will return to action on Saturday, playing host to DePaul at Belson Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
