The dynamic duo helps the Red Storm to a 1-0-1 week
After leading the St. John's women's soccer team to a 1-0-1 week Meredith Reinhardt and Zsani Kajan were named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Â
Kajan was awarded conference honors for the second time this season after pacing the Red Storm offense with two goals and seven shots over two games. The Budapest, Hungary, native scored both of her goals against second-place Butler on Sunday, leading St. John's to the 2-1 victory.
Â
With a pair of goals this week, the redshirt sophomore has now registered two multi-scoring games this season. Â Kajan's nine goals and 20 points on the 2018 campaign rank her second in both statistical categories in the BIG EAST.
Â
Reinhardt had a 1-0-1 week for the Red Storm totaling nine saves, a .900 save percentage and 0.45 goals against average. The redshirt sophomore picked up a scoreless draw against Providence on Thursday with six saves before earning a 2-1 win over Butler on Sunday. Reinhardt has now been recognized by the conference in back-to-back weeks.
Â
The Arizona transfer was flawless in Thursday's double overtime match with the Friars, tying a season-high six saves, to pick up her second clean sheet of the 2018 campaign. With six stops against the Friars the transfer has now tallied six saves on four different occasions for the Red Storm this season.
Â
Reinhardt's key moment of the week came in the Johnnies' 2-1 win over Butler on Sunday. With less than 13 minutes remaining in the match, the redshirt sophomore blocked what would have been a game-tying penalty kick by reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Paige Monaghan.
Â
Kajan, Reinhardt and the rest of the St. John's women's soccer team return to action Saturday evening, traveling to South Orange, N.J., for a contest with Seton Hall. Â First kick is scheduled for 6 p.m.
