England’s 10 assists and seven steals help the Johnnies to second-straight win
After helping the St. John's women's basketball team to a second-straight victory against Army on Friday night, Tiana England was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Â
In the Red Storm's lone outing of the week against the Black Knights, the redshirt sophomore matched a career-high 10 assists en route to the Johnnies' 60-49 victory. With England's 10 helpers against Army, the Stamford, Conn., native became just the second BIG EAST player this season to reach the double-digit assists mark in a single game.
Â
On the defensive end, the 5-foot-7 guard grabbed seven of the team's 12 steals, becoming the first player to record at least seven steals in a single contest since Aaliyah Lewis grabbed seven against Seton Hall on Dec. 30, 2016.
Â
In addition, England netted eight points on a 3-of-7 shooting effort to go along with a pair of boards in 35 minutes of action.
Â
England and the Red Storm will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. when the team travels to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam. The Johnnies will kick off play against Purdue before facing No. 2 ranked UConn on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. St. John's will then wrap up play on Saturday, Nov. 24 against Ole Miss at 5:30 p.m. FloHoops.com will provide a live stream of all the games during the Paradise Jam.
