Bruce and Whipp Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Bruce and Whipp will now be on the final ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team
Mecara Bruce and Lucy Whipp have each earned first team Academic All-District accolades as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Following their Academic All-District selections, Whipp and Bruce will now be on the final ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
The honors give the St. John's women's soccer program at least one player on the academic all-district first team in eight of the last 10 seasons.
A legal studies major with a 3.93 GPA, Whipp is coming off of a tremendous senior season, helping the Johnnies reach the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Ormskirk, England, native started in all 19 matches for the Red Storm, recording a career-high four goals over her senior campaign. Whipp also added a pair of assists for 10 total points this season. The senior forward had a notable performance for Red Storm against Buffalo, registering a pair of tallies for the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career.
Bruce, a finance major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, was an integral part of the Red Storm's back line that recorded four shutouts this season. The Bordentown, N.J., native registered her first career point this year with an assist against Villanova. Starting in all 19 games this season, the senior played a total 1,657 minutes, for the most on the squad.
St. John's players have now accumulated a total of 19 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections since the 2002 season, including 12 first team honorees. The program also boasts five CoSIDA Academic All-America selections.
