Bailey and Kebbe lead the Red Storm to a lopsided victory over La Salle
After leading the St. John's women's basketball team to a lopsided victory over La Salle on Saturday afternoon, Kadaja Bailey has been named the league's Freshman of the Week, while Alisha Kebbe earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference this afternoon.
Â
Bailey, a rookie from Long Beach, N.Y., has now earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice over the 2018-19 campaign. The 6-foot guard shot 4-of-8 from the field towards eight points while adding seven rebounds in just 21 minutes of action.
Â
The Preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year selection is averaging 6.6 points off the bench for the Red Storm. In addition to her scoring effort, Bailey leads the league's rookies in rebounding with 4.7 per game.
Kebbe has been a key component in the Red Storm's success since her arrival on campus in 2016. The junior guard stuffed the stat sheet for the Red Storm on Saturday en route to the Johnnies 26-point margin victory over the Explorers. The Philadelphia native finished just shy of a double-double, netting 19 points off a 6-of-12 shooting effort from the floor to go along nine boards. Kebbe also tied a career-high four steals, while adding two blocks and a pair of assists to her stellar performance.
Â
This season the 5-foot-10 guard is one of two St. John's players to average double figures with 10.7 points per game. Kebbe has notched double digits in seven of the team's 10 contests so far this year and is averaging 4.3 boards per game.
Â
Bailey, Kebbe and the Johnnies return to action on Friday, wrapping up their non-conference schedule with a trip to Harrisonburg, Va., where St. John's will showdown with JMU at 2 p.m.
