QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping the St. John's baseball team remain unbeaten in BIG EAST action with a crucial three-game sweep of a highly-touted Creighton squad, Sean Mooney and Josh Shaw have been recognized by the conference for their efforts. Mooney was named the league's pitcher of the week, while Shaw claimed BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades.
Mooney has been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season after leading the Red Storm to a tone-setting Friday victory over the Bluejays. The sophomore from Marmora, N.J., carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, scattering one hit and three walks over 6.2 scoreless frames. The 2017 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year improved to 7-1 on the season on Friday and moved his career mark to 15-3 in 22 starts.

The junior second baseman hit .455 and drove in five of his six runs during the Red Storm's conference sweep of Creighton, including two apiece during each game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Wayne, N.J., native delivered some late-game heroics for the Johnnies in the second contest of the twin bill, smacking a two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. On the season, Shaw is now hitting .306 and leads the team with 11 doubles.
