Kaitlin Mattera Tabbed to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Sophomore Kaitlin Mattera was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after helping the Red Storm to a 3-2 week, with wins over Stony Brook, Wagner and BIG EAST foe DePaul.
Mattera garnered her first honor roll appearance of the 2018 season after putting up a stellar effort over the Johnnies' five-game stretch.
The Coventry, R.I., native's highlight moment came at the team's opener with DePaul on Saturday. Entering the 11th inning, with the game knotted at two, Mattera belted a two-run homer to break the tie and propel the Red Storm to a 4-2 victory.
Over the five games, Mattera posted a .500 clip from the plate, recording a team-high eight hits in 16 at bats including a pair of doubles and the aforementioned round tripper against the Blue Demons. In addition, the sophomore drove in a total of five RBIs for the Red Storm.
Mattera has now recorded three dingers during the 2018 campaign and has collected a team-high 11 doubles, sitting third in the BIG EAST. The second-year catcher leads the conference in on base percentage with a .477 mark.
Mattera and the St. John's (18-23) squad return to the diamond on Thursday for a nonconference matchup with Manhattan College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
