Red Storm Returns Home to Host Hofstra Tuesday

St. John’s finishes road trip with 4-3 record.
The St. John's volleyball team will look to ride the momentum of its five-set victory over Tennessee State this Tuesday when they face off against in-state opponent Hofstra at 7 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.

The Red Storm (8-3) went 1-2 over the weekend at The Fredonia Hotel/Holiday Inn Express SFA Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Johnnies went 0-2 on Friday against Stetson and Stephen F. Austin before defeating Tennessee State on Saturday morning to close out the event. Jordan McCalla was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting two double-doubles in three matches. The sophomore averaged 3.08 kills per set to lead the team in her home state of Texas.

Erica Di Maulo delivered 120 assists in the three matches bringing her up to 2,836 assists in her career. The Preseason All-BIG EAST selection currently ranks fifth in program history in the category while ranking fourth in the BIG EAST in assists per set in 2018.

After playing a limited role in her first two seasons in Queens, redshirt junior Nia Diaz currently leads the BIG EAST with a .387 hitting percentage. The middle hitter currently ranks second on the team with 84 kills and third with 20 blocks.

Hofstra (7-3) enters the match after dropping two of three matches over the weekend. On Friday, the Pride fell to San Francisco in five sets at the USF/Saint Mary's Tournament. The team then split on day two sweeping Southern Utah in the morning before ending the event with a four-set loss to St. Mary's.

After leading the Pride in kills in 2017 with 446, Laura Masciullo was named the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year. The junior currently leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.56). Hofstra ranks second as a team in the Colonial with a team hitting percentage of .260 boasting three of the top-10 in the CAA in the category. Doris Bogoje headlines the group, leading the conference with a .447 clip.

Emily Mansur is in her fifth season with the Pride after leading the program to a record of 18-14 last season. Hofstra was picked third in the CAA Preseason Poll behind James Madison and College of Charleston.

This will be the 17th meeting all-time between the two programs with the most recent matchup coming in 2010. The Johnnies swept that match and own a 9-7 record against the Pride.
