Vashistha Advances to the Main Draw of the ITA All-American Championships

Vashistha becomes the first Johnnie to reach the main singles draw since Vasko Mladenov in 2012.
TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 8, 2019) – St. John's junior Aditya Vashistha continued his remarkable run at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Tuesday as he became the first St. John's men's tennis player to clinch a spot in the main singles draw of the tournament since Vasko Mladenov in 2012.
Vashistha also became the first Johnnie to reach the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships after winning seven matches in four days.
The Bikaner, India, native picked up his first win of the day in the semifinals, defeating Western Michigan's Jannik Opitz, 6-4, 6-1, to reach the final round of qualifying.
The junior wasted no time in his finals contest, clinching one of the 16 qualifying spots for the main singles draw with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marius Frosa of Wichita State in just over an hour of play.
With a win Wednesday morning, Vashistha will become the first men's tennis player in program history to reach the second round of the tournament's main singles draw.
