St. John’s to Host Xavier and Butler for a Pair of Weekend Matchups

The Red Storm enter the weekend sitting at fourth place in the conference standings
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2019) – After picking up a four-set victory over Providence, the St. John's volleyball team returns to Carnesecca Arena to take on Xavier this Friday night before facing Butler on Sunday.
The Red Storm (15-10, 7-5 BIG EAST) will face the Musketeers on Friday at 7 p.m. The Johnnies will then face the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon with the match slated to start at 12 p.m.
Efrosini Alexakou was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday after turning in 29 kills and four service aces across the Johnnies' two matches against No. 9 Creighton and the Friars. The sophomore outside hitter currently ranks first in conference play with 4.99 points per set and sits in second place with 4.42 kills per set.
Senior Erica Di Maulo extended her career service aces record to 139 in the Johnnies' win over Providence. The setter posted 39 assists, seven digs, three kills and one service ace. Di Maulo is 93 helpers shy from becoming the program's all-time assists leader and is just six away from notching her 1,000th career dig.
Sophomore right side hitter Rachele Rastelli tallied 20 kills for the Red Storm last weekend after capping off St. John's two-match road trip with 16 kills and a .364 hitting percentage against the Friars.
Xavier (9-13, 6-6 BIG EAST) leads the conference with 2.31 blocks per set this season while sophomore middle blocker Jayda Carlton ranks first in the league with 1.23 blocks per set.
Redshirt freshman Lauren Hanlon paces the Musketeers with 199 kills as senior defensive specialist Madi Kutruff ranks third in conference play with 4.78 digs per set.
Right side hitter Moriah Hopkins was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last week after notching 20 kills in Xavier's win over DePaul on November 3.
The Johnnies defeated the Musketeers in straight sets on October 12, when the Red Storm won the kill margin, 44-24.
Butler (10-14, 7-5 BIG EAST) has won two of its last three matchups after suffering a straight-set loss to No. 10 Marquette on Sunday. The Bulldogs will face Seton Hall on Friday before traveling to Queens on Sunday.
Butler ranks first in the conference with 15.79 digs per set and has held its opponents to a .187 hitting percentage average this season.
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Melody Davidson leads the league with 107 blocks (1.13 blocks per set) in 2019.
