St. John’s Heads to Yale for Friday Night Tilt

The Johnnies and Bulldogs will face off at 7 p.m. on ESPN+
Coming off a pair of setbacks in Las Vegas last weekend, the St. John's women's basketball team will look to get back in the win column on Friday, as the Johnnies make a trip to New Haven, Conn., for a 7 p.m. contest with Yale.
Friday night's showdown with the Bulldogs will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from Lee Amphitheater.
This past weekend at the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up, the Red Storm (4-3) fell short to IUPUI and host team UNLV in a pair of tightly contested battles.
Despite the team's two losses, freshman Leilani Correa and redshirt senior Alissa Alston were bright spots for the Johnnies. Correa wrapped up the weekend with a career-high 20 points in Sunday's meeting with UNLV, going 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. The Manchester, N.J., native also pulled down a team-high eight boards for the second-straight game to earn her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolade on Monday.
Alston was also recognized by the conference this week, as the 5-foot-8 guard earned a spot on the league's honor roll after averaging a team-high 14.5 points to go along with 5.5 rebounds per game at the Lady Rebel Round-Up. On the weekend, Alston logged 18 points on a 7-for-11 shooting against IUPUI on Saturday, before picking up the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds against UNLV on Sunday.
Through eight games this year, Alston has been dangerous from downtown, draining 10 of her 15 attempts to lead the conference with a 66.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
The dynamic duo of Alston and Tiana England will return home to Connecticut for Friday's contest with Yale. Alston, a native of New Haven, will play ball in her hometown for the first time since her days at Hill Regional Career High School.
Saturday's contest with Yale will mark fourth all-time meeting between the two programs and the second contest in as many years. The Red Storm leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 3-0.
Yale (6-2) enters Friday's matchup on the heels of an 82-79 victory over BIG EAST foe Providence on Wednesday. In Yale's defeat over the Friars, three different players finished in double figures for the Bulldogs, as Ellen Margaret Andrews paced the way with a team-high 23 points on a 7-for-10 shooting from the field, draining all four of her attempts from distance.
Through eight games this campaign, Yale's leading scorer Roxy Barahman leads the Ivy League with 17.3 points per game, shooting 43.7 percent from the floor. Barahman has finished in double figures in all eight contests this season, with her highest scoring total coming against Northeastern on Nov. 23, as the senior guard posted 29 points. In her second year with Yale, Camilla Emsbo is just shy of averaging a double-double with 15.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per outing.
Following Friday's contest with Yale, the Johnnies will return home to the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena for a Monday night meeting with Army at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
