The Red Storm drops its second match against an Ivy League opponent this season.
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team fell to Brown, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Friday's loss to Brown marks the Johnnies second defeat to an Ivy League opponent this season.
Brown would gain an early advantage in doubles play due to St. John's only having two doubles teams available. Jessica Livianu and Najah Dawson started the day on the right foot for the Red Storm, capturing a 6-1 win from the No. 1 position. The second flight consisting of Olaya Inclan Solis and Oceane Garibal dropped the decisive No. 2 doubles match to Brown's Ryan Peus and Courtney Kowalsky, 6-2.
Livianu continued her impressive form as she would win her top-flight singles match in straight sets, (6-3, 6-0).
Dawson earned the Johnnies their second point of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 match.
Garibal, Inclan Solis, Delia Arranz, and Jenelle Downer all dropped their singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory for the Bears.
St. John's will look to avenge its loss on Sunday, Feb. 24 as the Red Storm start conference play against Villanova at the National Tennis Center at 8:30 p.m.
