St. John’s Heads to Villanova for Friday Night Tilt

The Johnnies and Wildcats will tip off at 7 p.m. on BEDN
Looking to get back in the win column after falling to DePaul on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden, the St. John's women's basketball team will travel to longtime conference foe Villanova on Friday evening.
The game, which is set to tip at 7 p.m., will be live streamed on BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go, with John Fanta and Christine Motta on the call.
The Red Storm (13-13, 6-9 BIG EAST) will look to record its fifth BIG EAST win in six tries when it travels to Villanova (16-9, 7-7 BIG EAST) on Friday night. Entering the week, St. John's is part of a three-way tie for sixth place in the league standings, as Creighton and Seton Hall are also 6-9 through 15 conference contests.
After recording a victory over No. 8/7 Marquette, handing the Golden Eagles their first loss of conference play, the Red Storm suffered its second loss to DePaul this season at Madison Square Garden. St. John's fell to the Blue Demons, 70-62, on Sunday afternoon.
Curteeona Brelove provided a bright spot for the Red Storm on Sunday at "The World's Most Famous Arena," recording her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Malone, Fla., native has now eclipsed double figures in five-straight BIG EAST appearances.
Despite the loss to DePaul, Qadashah Hoppie paced the way for the Red Storm, netting a team-high 16 points, draining eight of her 10 tries from the charity stripe.
Tiana England, who found a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season on Monday, ranks first in the conference in assists (5.7 apg). England has been a sharp shooter for the Red Storm as of late, averaging a team-best 13.2 points per contest over the last five showdowns.
Friday's meeting between Villanova and St. John's will be the second contest of the season between the two schools. In the two team's last meeting on Jan. 27 in Queens, Villanova registered a 73-57 win. In the victory, Mary Gedaka netted a game-high 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Despite the loss, England paced the way for Red Storm with 18 points while also recording three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
The Wildcats enter Friday night's contest on the heels of a blowout victory over Georgetown, 91-43, on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion.
On the season, three Wildcats are averaging double figures, led by Gedaka at 14.3 points per game. Gedaka also leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per outing. Kelly Jekot (14.0 ppg) and Adrianna Hahn, (11.9 ppg) are the other two Wildcats averaging more than 10 points per game.
After taking on Villanova, the Red Storm will wrap up its final road swing of the regular season at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
