Prior to hosting FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Christine McBeath made a trip to the United Nations
The St. John's women's soccer team had the opportunity to host FC Girondins de Bordeaux from the Division I Feminine, the premier women's league in France, last week.
"It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved in our program to host FC Girondins de Bordeaux," Head Coach Ian Stone said. "They played a beautiful brand of soccer and were excellent professional role models for our student athletes."
Despite falling to FC Girondins de Bordeaux, 3-0, the Johnnies put forth a stellar effort against the professional club, holding them to just one goal in the first 45 minutes of action. Bordeaux's form has been impressive as of late, the south-east French side has won five of its last six games in league play, including a big 4-0 victory over Toulouse.
Prior to the contest, St. John's midfielder Christine McBeath represented the Red Storm, as she accompanied FC Girondins de Bordeaux on its trip to the United Nations.
"It was a great experience and opportunity to be at the UN," McBeath said. "It was an eye opening experience, especially being able to listen in on the conversations about implementing new changes for women in higher levels of soccer. The experience was all around unreal, being able to listen to high international officials and representatives speak about changes that could lead to major gains for the future of women in sports."
The Red Storm will return to action on Saturday, when the Johnnies host local foe Fordham at Belson Stadium for the third match of their spring slate. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
